John Randall Plyler, 77, of 618 Fernwood Drive, Albemarle, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 12, 2012, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Randall was born in Stanly County on July 15, 1934, son of the late John Daniel Plyler and Myrtle Mauldin Plyler. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Plyler will be on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Plyler Baptist Church. Reverend Brian Franklin will officiate and the burial will be in the church cemetery. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1952. He was employed with Perfect Fit Industries for 35 years as maintenance supervisor at the Richfield plant. Randall was a dedicated member of Plyler Baptist Church where he served for over 50 years as music director, Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also served on numerous church committees throughout the years and sang with several gospel quartets. Randall enjoyed going on church mission trips as long as his health permitted. His hobbies included reading the Bible, singing, gardening, woodworking and assembling puzzles. Randall is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Sarah Frances Poplin Plyler. They were childhood sweethearts and were married on September 7, 1952. Also surviving are his children, Debra Plyler Turner and husband Frank of Albemarle and Randy Eugene Plyler and wife LilyAnn of Matthews; granddaughters, Dana Paige Turner of Rural Hall and Mary Kate Turner of Albemarle who were his pride and joy; and a sister-in-law Betty Poplin Lander of Shelby.
