John Rankin

John R. Rankin, 84, of Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Rankin was born July 14, 1935 in Gaston County to the late Arthur Paul Rankin and the late Annie Lucille Spargo Rankin. He was also preceded in death by brother, Arthur Eugene Rankin and sister, Sondia Ann Rankin Hamrick.

John was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a member of Metrolina MG Car Club for 24 years and the Hornet's Nest Region of Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA). He enjoyed traveling both nationally and international. John's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a former employee of Harris Teeter for 30 years.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Rocky River Presbyterian Church, 7940 Rocky River Road, Concord officiated by Rev. Neal Carter. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Survivors include wife of 60 years, Linda Rankin of Harrisburg; daughter, Heather Rankin Terry and husband Phillip of Harrisburg; son, David Rankin and wife Kimberly of Unionville; grandchildren, Emily Terry, Reese Rankin, Gillian Terry, and Carly Rankin; brother, Bob Rankin of Winnabow; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Rocky River Presbyterian Church.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg is serving the Rankin family.
