John Coolidge "Bill" Russ, 90 years of age, of Concord, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.
Mr. Russ was born November 19, 1924 in Iredall County to the late Joseph Alonzo Russ and the late Leslie Virginia Blackwelder Russ. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Evelyn Aldridge Wilson; second wife, Betty Jean Griffin Russ; son, Johnny O'Neal Russ; brothers, Eugene, Fred, and Ralph Russ, sisters, Inez Petrea, Virgie Earnhardt, Elvie Poteat.
John honorably served his country in France during WWII in the United States Air Force. He worked for Troutman Homes, James Cook Construction, and retired from Little Construction. John was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The graveside service will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, with Rev. Terry Cruse officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the North Carolina National Honor Guard. At other times the family will be gathering at the home.
He is survived by his son, Willie Richard "Rick" Russ of Concord; daughters, Gladys Russ Page and husband Tony of Mt. Pleasant, and Shirley "Shyrl" Russ Kiker of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
