John Benjamin Turner, 30 of Concord, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012 at CMC-Main. The family will receive friends at Providence Baptist Church 5315 Hwy 49 South Harrisburg, on Monday, December 10, 2012 from 1 until 3 pm. Funeral services will follow at 3 pm at the church, with Dr. John Cashwell officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Harrisburg. John was born on, October 18, 1982 in Cleveland County. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Harold Dean George and step-grandfather AG Wright. Growing up John spent countless hours practicing baseball with his dad. John was rewarded for all his hard work with 2 state championships. John was a member of the Shelby Junior Tar Heel State Champions and he played centerfield for the 2001 Shelby High Golden Lions Baseball State Champions. He worked in management for Sherwin Williams in Charlotte. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he attended the Young Adult Sunday School Class. John was an avid Tar Heel fan and enjoyed playing golf. He was a very loving husband and a wonderful father to his two girls. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Scher Turner of the home; daughters, Makenley Anne Turner and Grace Elizabeth Turner of the home; parents, Benjamin Hoyle Turner and Debra K. George Turner of Shelby; paternal grandparents, Max Lee Turner, Sr. and Cornelia Hoyle Turner; maternal grandmother, Wilma Hamm Wright; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and many wonderful friends from the community. Memorials may be made to the John Turner Memorial Fund C/O Providence Baptist Church 5315 Hwy 49 South Harrisburg, NC 28075. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Turner family.
