John Carl Votik, Sr., 87 years of age of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. Mt. Votik was born July 19, 1924 in West New York, New Jersey to the late Joseph Votik and Marianka Havlik Votik. He met the love of his life, Allene June Carter Votik, whom he was married to for 58 years until her death June 9, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his son, Harold Carter Votik, and his brother, Albin Anthony Votik. He was a WWII Veteran of the U. S. Army. He played an important part as an engineer in the CBI Campaign building bridges. He was honorably discharged from the Army 1304th Engineers Battallion on February 20, 1946. Mr. Votik was a former member of St. John's Baptist Church in Charlotte where he was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was also a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 11 for 15 years at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. John was a long-time member of Steele Creek Masonic Lodge #737 AF & AM and Scottish Rite, KCCH and Shrine Masonic Temple. He was awarded a 60 year service pin for the Masonic Lodge and a 50 year service pin for Schottish Rite. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Monday, June 11, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, at Locust Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites and Masonic rites will be presented at the graveside. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Anne Votik McElwey and Bob, his son, John Carl Votik, Jr. and Barbara, his daughter, Allene Votik Sigmon and Glenn, daughter-in-law, Gina Votik Luckie and Stephen; grandchildren, Chris McElwey, Daniel McElwey and Rachel, Catherine Sigmon, Marianka "Mary" Votik, Kayli Votik, Carter Votik, and Annie Votik; and his brother, Joseph Anthony Votik of Florida. Our father,grandfather was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Votik family.
