Johnny Dale Burris, 66, of Oakboro, passed away, Thursday, January 31, 2013 at his home. A celebration of life will be at Red Cross Baptist Church on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm with a 30 minute state prior to the service. Rev. Angela Burris and Rev. George Freeman will officiate the worship service which will conclude with a graveside burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County, DAV, Chapter 12. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the graveside. At other times the family will meet at his home. Born December 3, 1946 in Stanly County, NC, he is the son of the late Fred Burris and late Grace Tucker Burris. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Malcolm Tucker. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Peggy Jo Smith Burris of the home; daughters, Angela Darlene Burris of Salisbury and McKenzie Anne Burris of Los Angeles, CA. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam conflict. He retired from the Air National Guard after 21 years of service. He retired as supervisor from Piedmont Natural Gas after 44 years of service. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
