Johnny Munson

Johnny Ray Munson, 53, of Kannapolis, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019.

Johnny was born August 9, 1966 in Monroe, NC to the late Billy Eugene Munson Sr. and Brenda Elizabeth Munson.  In addition to his father, Johnny was preceded in death by brothers, Billy Eugene Munson, Jr. and Roger Wayne Munson.

Johnny was a Deacon and member of West Point Baptist Church.  He loved ministering to people and volunteering with the church food pantry.  Johnny always made people smile.  He had a heart for others, always being the first to help.  His favorite place to vacation with his wife, Amy, was at the beach.  One of Johnny's favorite pastimes was mowing the grass with his best bud, Hez.  Johnny was a big fan of the UNC Tar Heels.  Johnny was a loving husband, father, Pappaw, son and brother.  He was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his mother, Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Sossamon Munson; sons, Johnny (Miranda) Munson, Jr. and Michael Munson; daughters, Samantha English, Amanda English, and Jennifer Raper; grandchildren, Savannah Baucom, Carter Munson, Layla Munson, Hezakiah English, Liam English, Eliza Austin and Kai Munson; sisters, Shirley Munson and Elizabeth (Allen) Hedrick; brother, William Munson; also numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and his church family.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm, Sunday, September 1, 2019 at West Point Baptist Church, 1100 Pine St., Kannapolis. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm on Sunday, officiated by Rev. Bill Nix.  Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery, 331 Union Cemetery Rd SW, Concord.  In honor of Johnny, please wear Carolina Blue or your favorite Tar Heel shirt.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Food Pantry at West Point Baptist Church, Kannapolis.
