John Tommy Whitley, 91, of Locust, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.
Mr. Whitley was born July 22, 1930, to the late Clarence Durant and Cora Smith Whitley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Luciene Herrin Whitley; brothers, Zebulon Whitley, Grant Whitley, Earl Whitley; sisters, Myrtle Lou Teeter, Cora Lee Crisco.
Tommy loved music and enjoyed playing all string instruments. He was the owner and operator of Locust TV Service. Tommy was previously a volunteer fireman and EMT were he met and helped so many people in Stanly County.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 3:00 pm, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle, officiated by Rev. Don Burleyson and Rev. Adam Hatley. Burial will follow at the Smith Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, at 25711 Old School Road, Oakboro.
Tommy is survived by sons, Gary (Judy) Whitley, Terrell (Debbi) Whitley, daughter, Karen (Mark) Whitley Allen; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, J. Clyde Whitley
