Jon was born March 1, 1956 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Royce Chance and the late Mary Chance.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon Bowers Chance of Albemarle; aunt, Hazel Chance; cousins, Sherry and Bob Turbutt, Jackie and Johnny Almond; sister-in-law, Denita (Frank) Culp; father-in-law, Homer Burris.
