Joseph Donald Brummitt, 86, of Norwood, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
Don was born December 8, 1930 in Forsyth County to the late Ernest Thomas Brummitt and the late Nita Joyce Brummitt. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Thomas Brummitt.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Andy Jung and Rev. Harold McDonald. The burial will be at Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main St., Albemarle. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Carol Lee Robertson Brummitt of the home; daughters, Donna Wells and husband Glenn of Palm City, FL, Jo Anne Burleson and husband Randy of Albemarle; son, Barry Charles Brummitt and wife Tyler of New London; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Don grew up and went to school in Graham, NC. He retired in 1995 after many years of service from Hydrolabs Inc. as a chemical salesman. Don was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Albemarle, and was a founding member of Morrow Mountain Men's Ministry. He enjoyed the ten years he spent volunteering for Oasis driving cancer patients to their treatments. Don was an avid golfer, and loved spending time boating on Lake Tillery and watching the birds.
