Joseph Kannaly Doran, Jr. 80, of Charlotte, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, surrounded by family in Charlotte, NC. Joe was born on June 16, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Dr. Joseph Doran Sr. and the late Doris (Gustin) Doran. He was also preceded in death by his siblings; Richard Doran of Denver, Colorado, Michael Doran of Hartsville, South Carolina, Sally Lecon of Las Vegas, Nevada and David Doran of Lake Delton, Wisconsin. Joe is survived by wife, Mary Carlotta Doran of Concord, North Carolina; his children, Kate Doran of Concord, NC, Mary (Michael) Kostrzynski of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Julia Doran of Tampa, Florida; his grandchildren, James Kostrzynski of Boston, Massachusetts, Ashley and Annie Kostrzynski of Charlotte, North Carolina; his brother, Peter Doran of Ely, Minnesota; his beloved dog, Jack, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe spent his early years living across from and attending Orange Schools in Moreland Hills, Ohio, where he graduated high school in 1961. He went on to attend Boston University and later returned to Cleveland where he graduated from John Carroll University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. Joe later achieved his Master in Social Work degree from Case Western Reserve University, which he leveraged to fulfill a long and successful career as an adult therapist with Catholic Social Services of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. On November 27, 1967, Joe married Carlotta Creech and they spent their early years raising their three children in Shaker Heights and Solon, Ohio. In retirement, Joe and Carlotta moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to be close to and spend cherished time with their daughters and grandchildren. Joe was a sports enthusiast, rooting on and showing unwavering support for community and local sports teams and had a love for travel, especially his yearly trip to Minnesota to fish the boundary waters with his brothers. Later in life, Joe developed a passion for genealogy and piecing together his family roots which served him well as he played the role of connecting and bringing people together, most notably his high school friends and his favorite local lunch buddies. Anyone that met Joe quickly became a lifelong friend and those friendships were treasured deeply by him.

The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 2pm EST and will be held at St. James "The Greater" Catholic Church in Concord, NC (139 Manor Ave SW). The family welcomes family and friends to join them for a light lunch and Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 12pm EST at The Clubhouse at Laurel Park in Concord, NC (532 Georgetown Dr NW). Inurnment will take place on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 11am EST at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, Joe would have loved donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Concord & Greater Cabarrus County.
