Joseph Franklin Spainhour, 78, of Harrisburg, NC, died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children the afternoon of May 24, 2016 at PruittHealth - Town Center in Harrisburg.
Joe was born in Mountain Park, NC on August 11, 1937 to the late Emmitt "Speed" Spainhour and Mary T. Spainhour. He is survived by his wife, Myra Stewart Spainhour; son, Joseph Todd Spainhour; daughter, Pamela Spainhour Shue & husband Jeff Shue; grandchildren, Jennifer Beck Carnes, Jonathan Beck, Joey Shue, Madeline Spainhour, Elle Spainhour, Natalie Spainhour and Stephanie Shue Walters; great grandchildren, Shelby Rae Carnes, Chase Walters and Noah Walters; sister, Betty Spainhour and brothers Bill Spainhour, wife Kay and Ed Spainhour.
Joe was a graduate of Mountain Park High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He loved NASCAR racing and Duke Basketball and for many years never missed a race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He loved his family with all of his heart and making friends during his lifetime. Joe made everyone he came in contact with feel special and loved. He always had a hug, handshake and a joke ready to share. His love for flowers and sharing them with others will be one of the many things we will remember about him.
He worked and retired from Mitchell Distributing in Charlotte, NC.
He is a member of Providence Baptist Church in Harrisburg, NC.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at both Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC and PruittHealth - Town Center for the care and love given to Joe during his illness. They would also like to thank the many friends and family who visited, brought food, prayed and called during this time. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
A memorial service will be at Providence Baptist Church at 11:00am on Saturday, May 28th, officiated by Rev. Rody Carland. The family will receive at 10:00am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at Providence Baptist Church, 5315 Hwy. 49 S, Harrisburg, NC 28075.
