Joe served our country in the Navy during WWII and in the Army during the Korean War. He was South Central Oil’s “Furnace Man” for decades and would tell everyone how he had been either into or under most of the houses in the county to keep their resident’s heat working. When he wasn’t working in his vegetable garden Joe played the guitar and mandolin. He was a founding member of The Old House Band and got together with his friends almost every Friday night to “pick a little music.”
Survivors include daughter Connie Morton-Ewbank and husband Ray of Lowell, Massachusetts; grandson Isaac Morton; brother Max and wife Myra of Locust.
Memorials may be made to the Endy Volunteer Fire Dept. at 25045 North Carolina 24, Albemarle.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Morton family.
