Josie Elizabeth Sells Norton of Richfield, North Carolina, passed away on September 14, 2011 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 3 pm until 4 pm at Matton’s Grove UMC . Funeral services will follow the visitation at 4 pm with Reverends Emily Kroeger, Tony Bowman and Marion Fulk officiating. Burial will follow at Matton’s Grove Church Cemetery. At other times the family will be meeting at the home of Joan and Gary Sells. Born in Stanly County on February 4, to the late Peter Gladstone and Frankie Elizabeth Hall Sells, she was also preceded in death by her husband Daniel Luther Norton who passed away in 1994; three sisters, Naomi Misenheimer, Flora Caudle, Mildred Nance and one brother, Carl Sells. Josie was a member of the Richfield Roadrunners Senior Citizens Group, Richfield Friendly Neighbors, the Pioneers Club; an organization for retired Bellsouth workers; Matton’s Grove UMW and was a choir member at Matton’s Grove. She loved to sing and loved her church. She was a retired telephone operator for Bellsouth Inc. and had previously been a beautician and owner of Dixie Beauty Shop in Concord. Mrs. Norton is survived by her nephew, Gary Sells and wife Joan; niece, Sue Sells who were her caregivers. She is also survived by nieces, Jahalia Frick, Geraldine Poplin, Annie Lee Misenheimer, Genoal Blalock; nephews, Jerry Misenheimer, Terry Nance; and a sister-in-law, Viola Norton Canipe.
