Joyce Alexander

Joyce Dean Connell Alexander, 83 years of age, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Hospice of Union County.

Mrs. Alexander was born October 28, 1930 in Monroe to the late Lloyd Sutton Connell and the late Loma Estelle Connell . She was also preceded in death by sister, Rebecca Cuthbertson; and infant daughter Deana Leigh Warwick.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Lakeview Baptist Church at 4602 Concord Hwy, Monroe NC 28110. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Lakeview Baptist Church and will be officiated by Dr. Steve Jirgal, Rev. Larry Gooch, and Rev. Ollis Revels. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Joyce worked for many years at the Monroe Enquirer Journal.

She was a longtime committed member at Lakeview Baptist Church where she was involved with the Senior Adults, and the Ruth Bible Class. She was also an active member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion Post 535. She was very involved with the Union County Board of Elections. She was the world's best cook and "Granny".

Survivors include husband, William "Bill" Marcus Alexander of Monroe; two sons, Marty (Madonna) Warwick of Indian Trail, and Kevin (Tammy) Warwick of Monroe; two daughters, Suzanne (Jerry) Herlocker of Midland, and Pam (Tommy) Hall of Indian Trail; two step-daughters, Terri (David) Cozad of Monroe, and Nancy (Dave) Schneider of Knoxville; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church Preschool Fund, 4602 Concord Hwy, Monroe, NC 28110; or Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe NC 28110.
