Joyce Duncan Morrison

February 7, 1937 — June 11, 2024

Harrisburg

Joyce Duncan Morrison, 87, formerly of Harrisburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2024. Her three daughters know she is now in the loving arms of her late husband, Bill Morrison.

Joyce was born February 7, 1937 in Johnson City, TN. She grew up in the Glenwood area of Charlotte where she had some of her happiest times. In high school, her brother, Don Duncan, introduced her to Bill Morrison when they lived on Camp Greene Street.

She was a graduate of Harding High School in Charlotte, class of 1955. She served on the board of the alumni association where she was very active. She looked forward to monthly luncheons where she could reminiscence with lifelong friends.

Joyce was a wonderful mother to her three daughters. She supported them by volunteering at their schools, taking them to church and always putting their needs before hers. She was the most loving, gracious and giving mother to ever be!

Joyce was an adoring “Mamaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They each have special memories of visits that always included delicious homemade food and sharing stories of her childhood.

Joyce retired from UNCC after thirty-three years as an Administrative assistant in various departments. She began her work in admissions where she worked with international students. Joyce was a bright light for so many students who had traveled from all over to attend the university. Her loving and caring nature drew many students in.

Most noteworthy, was a student by the name of Jamal Nahavandi. He became like a son to her and a family member to Bill and the girls. This forty-nine year old friendship was strong until her last day. In her time at Morningside Assisted Living, he provided invaluable care to her on behalf of her daughters who lived out of state. He is a treasured, unofficial family member.

The family is grateful for the love and care she received by the entire Morningside staff. They are forever thankful for Joyce Ward, an angel of a caregiver and friend.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Cindy Morrison Stone of Spartanburg, SC, Lori Morrison Fetner (Bob) of Highland Village, TX, and Sharon Kathleen Morrison of NC.; grandchildren Michelle and Christopher Stone, and Duncan and Garnet Fetner; greatgrandchildren, Katlin Shipman, Gavin Willis and Maxwell Fetner, and her beloved brother Don Duncan of Cornelius.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Assisted Living of Concord, Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County and Newell Presbyterian Church.

A Memorial service will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home, 460 Branchview Drive NE, Concord on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 1:30 pm. A visitation will follow the service.
