Joyce Mahaffey Suggs

Joyce Mahaffey Suggs, 87, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at The Gardens Of Taylor Glen in Concord.

 Joyce was born October 24, 1935 in South Carolina to the late Franklin Furman Mahaffey and the late Lillie Blanche Mahaffey. 

She was also preceded in death by husband, Thomas Milton Suggs, brothers, Coy Mahaffey, Boyd Mahaffey, Lathan Mahaffey.

Joyce attended Mars Hill College and Greensboro women's college. She received a Masters Degree from UNCC. Joyce had extensive experience over 34 years as an educator such as Home Ec, English, middle school and primary grades as she worked with a wide range of ages throughout her career. We often encountered former students in passing that would, without exception, tell Mom she was one of their favorite teachers. Joyce worked in leadership positions to support many of her sons' interests. Joyce enjoyed camper traveling in retirement with her beloved husband, Tom. As a member of the Taylor Glen community, she participated in painting and art classes. She also shared her enthusiasm for literature by reading to residents in the Taylor Glen library. 

 The memorial  service will be on Saturday, July 29 at 2pm  at Westford United Methodist Church 273 Highway 49 S, Concord, NC 28025 officiated by Pastor Jeffrey Rushing. The family will receive friends directly after the service there at the church. 

Survivors include son, Mark(Patricia) Suggs of Belmont, NC, Son, Eric (Mary Lynn)Suggs of Huntersville, NC, Son, Philip(Traci) Suggs of Charlotte, NC, Son, Cary(Lisa) Suggs of Monroe, NC, sister, Nora Martin of Harrisburg, NC.
