Gilead, North Carolina 27306, passed away on April 04, 2010 at his residence. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle on Monday from 6 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Prospect Baptist Church on Tuesday at 11:00 am with the Rev. Stoney Benefield and assisted by Rev. Bill Morrow. Burial will follow with military honors preformed at the graveside by DAV Chapter 12. Born in Stanly County on November 14,1929. Mr. J.T. Russell was survived by his loving wife Betty Russell of 58 years, of Mt. Gilead NC, his Daughters Angela Russell Blalock and husband Sam of Albemarle, NC, Vivian Russell Turberville and husband Roger of Albemarle NC, his sons Atlas James "Jim" Russell and wife Mary Jo of Albemarle NC, David "Doc" Russell of Albemarle NC, Timothy P. "Tim" Russell and wife June of Albemarle NC, his grandchildren Mandi Turbeville Eudy and husband Brian, Brian Blalock, Nicholas Blalock and wife Tracy, Will Turbeville, Nathan Russell and wife Karmen, Anna Yates Russell and fiance John Lipcsak, Titus Russell, Caine Russell, Brooke Russell, Amie Russell, great-grandchildren, Lillie Grace Eudy, Brayden Thomas Eudy, Aden Thomas Blalock, his brother Robert E. "Bob" Russell of Albemarle NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. J.T. Russell was preceded in death by his mother Lillie Mae Calloway Russell, his brother Rogers H. Russell, his father James Titus Russell Sr. JT attended New London School and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was co owner of JT Russell & Sons, Inc, as well as secretary and treasurer. He was the founder of The Tillery Tradition Country Club. He was an active member of Prospect Baptist Church where he was a past deacon and had served as treasurer of his Sunday school class. JT was on the board of directors at First Union Bank and was a past member of The Stanly County Zoning Board. JT had a passion for highway and heavy construction and built his reputation on being an active and responsible contractor for JT Russell & Sons. He was involved with many NC DOT projects along with private and commercial projects in the Carolinas. He loved his work and enjoyed being co owner of JT Russell & Sons. JT was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He loved his wife and family. He loved golf and enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends. He loved to watch baseball games. JT was a true friend to many people and will be truly missed.
