Biography

Juanita Ann Washam Poplin, age 73, of New London, passed away Thursday November 26, 2015, at her home in New London.


Juanita was born October 27, 1942, to the late Ben Atkins Washam and Clara Goodnight Washam. She was preceded in death on July 24, 2015, by her husband of 46 years, Joseph M. Poplin.


The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home on Sunday evening November 29, 2015, from 6 to 8 pm. A service of worship and celebration of life will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 30, 2015, at 11am. The burial will follow in the Poplin Family Cemetery at the homeplace. Rev. Steve Combs will officiate at the service and burial.


Survivors include son, Shane Poplin and wife, Jill Klosterman of Albemarle, two step daughters, Kelly Morean (Bill) of Red Lodge, MT, Kim Shehan (Michael) of Orlando, FL; three step grandchildren, McKenzie, Madison and Nicholas Morean; two sisters, Kathy W. Miller (Dennis) of High Point and Sarah W. Lowe (Richard) of Huntersville; niece, Carrie Miller of Greensboro; and nephews, Ben Miller, Brandon Lowe, and Bryan Lowe, all of Huntersville.


Juanita graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1961, attended Pfeiffer College and graduated from Kings Business College in Charlotte. She had a varied secretarial career working for First Union Bank, the FBI during the late 60s in Charlotte, Florida Steel Drum in Harrisburg and Tuscarora Yarns in Mt. Pleasant. Juanita was a member of the Alexandriana Chapter of the NCSDAR in Huntersville, a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Millingport and served 18 years on the Board of Directors for Union Power, Monroe, NC.
