Judson Britt, Sr

Judson Chaffin Britt, Sr., 96 years of age, of Midland, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Transitional Health Services in Kannapolis.

Jake was born November 9, 1918 in Columbus County, NC to the late Andrew Jackson Britt and the late Olive Branch Britt.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Eloise Cashwell Britt; sisters, Elizabeth Dill and Sabena Hinson; brother, Billy Paul Britt; and son-in-law, Robert Layton, Sr.

He was an asphalt pavement foreman for over 30 years with Blythe Construction Company. He was a faithful member of Arlington Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher for many years. He enjoyed reading his Bible and loved to garden. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. He was a former Master Mason with Union Lodge #618 AM & FM.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Arlington Baptist Church in the Family Life Center. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Steven Gandy, will follow at 3:00 pm. The burial will be in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be gathering at the home.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Edna Garner Britt of the home; son, Judson C. Britt, Jr. (Meldonna) of Stanfield; daughter, Sonja Decker (Ted) of Woodstown, NJ; stepsons, Clyde Suggs, Jr., Dr. Ted Suggs (Ann), Richard Suggs (Sherry), Douglas Suggs (Carlotta), and Jerry Suggs; stepdaughters, Rhonda Worth (James), Patti Helms; brother, Kenneth J. Britt (Jennie); sisters, Virginia Godfrey, Ruth Standa (Edward), and Betty Thompson (Douglas); grandchildren, Wendi McCarn, Brittany Mitchell, Robert Britt, Bob Layton, Jr., Shelley Belk; step-grandchildren, Neil Suggs, Kristina Suggs, Katie Suggs, Meredith Suggs, Mallory Suggs, Adam Suggs, Carlie Suggs, Avery Suggs, Bryan Suggs, Caroline Suggs, Adrianne Foust, Brian Worth, Matthew Worth, David Worth, Shannon Mullen, and Jillian Watson; and 18 great-grandchildren.
