Judy Polk Medlin

February 22, 1951 — February 10, 2025

Unionville

Judy Polk Medlin, 73, of Unionville, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at home.

Judy was born February 22, 1951, in Union County, to the late Fred Thomas Polk and the late Addie Bell (Tucker) Polk. She was also preceded in death by father-in-law Romis Clifford Medlin and mother-in-law Macie Kiker Medlin. Judy was quite proud of sharing the same birthday with George Washington and often said "Don't forget George!" as her birthday approached.

Survivors include husband Zack Medlin; sons Kirk (Karen) Medlin and Alan Medlin; sister Peggy (Dennis) Pressley; and brother and sister-in-law Nathan and Cathryn (Hinson) Medlin. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Blake Barnette, Drew Barnette, and Tamsen Medlin, who were a blessing as the daughters she never had. Surviving nieces and nephews are Tim Medlin, Lana Kirkpatrick, Susan Moose, and Marty Pressley.

Judy was hired by Union County Public Works in 1977 as a receptionist and stayed with the County for her entire 32-year career, eventually reaching the position of Business Operations Manager. She worked with Jennifer Deese and Carolyn Lemmond for the majority of those years; they called themselves "The Girls" and helped manage the exponential growth of the County and its services. Jennifer and Carolyn preceded her in death, so The Girls are together again.

Judy's greatest passions were family, flowers, running a string trimmer until it ran out of string, adding more string to trimmers, building and maintaining a water feature for goldfish and other visitors, cleaning everything all the time, and laughing. Always.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to everyone who supported Judy as her health declined in the past two years. A special thanks go to the in-home hospice support staff who made her final months much easier with their compassion and assistance.

The memorial service will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15th at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church, 7918 Crooked Creek Church Road in Monroe, NC. The funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Justin Nash. Since Judy chose cremation, there will be no visitation. The family has chosen to not have a formal receiving of guests, but we will be available after the service to talk and share memories. An informal graveside service at Crooked Creek will be held at a date yet to be determined.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Polk family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.hartsellfuneralhomes.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you plant a tree, a flowering bush, or anything else which makes the world prettier. She would have covered the world with daffodils, if possible.
