Judy Kay Smith Simpson, 70, of Monroe, NC, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, at Carolinas Medical Center – Union of Monroe. Mrs. Simpson was born July 1, 1941, in Stanly County to the late Brady Franklin Smith and Verona Fay McCoy Hartsell. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Wednesday, with a 30 minute state, at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church of Monroe. Elder Charles Broadway and Elder Charles Smith will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at her home. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Dewell Bernard Simpson, of the home; her daughters, Judy Macemore and her husband, Darren, of Monroe and Joy Hedenskog and her husband, Jason, of Wadesboro; grandchildren, Bradley Price, Dalton Macemore, Kaylan Hedenskog, and Miley Hedenskog; and sisters, Justine Hinson of Mt. Holly and Rachel Gillum of Mocksville. Memorials may be made to Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church, in care of Maurice Broadway, 6118 New Hope Church Road, Marshville, NC 28103.
