June Cochran

June Oleka Ritchie Cochran, 76 years of age, went to her homecoming with our Lord Jesus Christ, Tuesday, April 12, 2016. She was born on May 7th, 1939, in Concord, to the late William Haywood Ritchie and Ruth Mae Kirby Ritchie. June was also preceded in death by her brother, David Eugene Ritchie and sister, Willie Ruth Ritchie Atwell.
June graduated from Concord High School in 1957. She enjoyed playing basketball for the Concord "Spiders." She worked at Shueford Insurance, and then Morton Frozen Foods. June also worked for the Cabarrus County Schools System, as a Teacher Assistant, in Child Nutrition and in the Payroll Department. She retired from Cabarrus County Schools after 32 years. During her career she was the President of EOP for 2 years, District 5 EOP (Treasurer and Vice President), EOP for Cabarrus County and District 5 EOP of the Year. She loved her church and church family. June taught Sunday School for many years and was active with the Lydia women's group and the Prayer Team. She attended many bible studies, including the Discipleship classes. She was voted as Layperson of the Year and sang in the choir for Roberta United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and loved playing canasta with her friends. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
June is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, J.W. "Dub" Cochran Jr; daughters, Tracie Cochran May and husband, Robert, Kelly Cochran Almond and husband, Dwight; son, Stacey Cochran and wife, Tambra; her grandchildren, Jamie Stirewalt and husband, Eric, Melissa May, Casey Cochran, Jessica Black, Brian May, Chris Almond and wife, Lindsey; her great-grandchildren, Jaden Oleka Havens, Mysun Dowdle, Brennan and Max Almond, Gage Simpson, and Madison Rebekah Stirewalt; her sister Dorothy "Dot" Campbell; and her best friend of 60 years Jenoal Green Blackwelder.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Roberta United Methodist Church, 3925 Cochran Rd., Concord. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm in the Roberta United Methodist Church Sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
