Kathleen Barbee Bowers

Kathleen Barbee Bowers, 97, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025.

Kathleen was born October 12, 1927 in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Silas Cecil Barbee and the late Bertie Mae Morris Barbee. 

She was also preceded in death by husband of 45 years, Harry Leon "Sug" Bowers; son, Donnie William Bowers; sisters, Sadie Howell, Dorothy Coxton, and Frances Almond; and brothers, Earl Barbee, Clarence Barbee, Calvin Barbee, Fred Barbee, and William Barbee.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm, Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Canton Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Canton Baptist Church in Albemarle officiated by Pastor Curtis Williams. Burial will follow at the Canton Baptist Church Cemetery at 24615 Endy Road, Albemarle.

Survivors include daughters, Saundra Underwood (Tony) and Rita Little (JD); daughter-in-law, Wanda Bowers; grandchildren, Jill Underwood, Amy Carriker, Wesley Underwood, Brandy Wigdor, and Laurel Owens; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Burleson.

Kathleen was an avid crocheter, she spent countless hours creating beautiful pieces with her hands, always with a thought for the person who would receive them. She also had a passion for dancing, a passion that brought light to her soul and joy to those around her. Additionally, Kathleen was an avid gardener who took great pride in her vibrant flowers and well-tended plants. 

Most of all, Kathleen loved her family and her church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she lived with unwavering devotion to God, always sharing her love and compassion with others. Her family was her pride and joy, and she devoted herself to them selflessly, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.

The family would like extend a special thanks to her friend and caregiver Saundra Whitley.
