Kathleen Brown Efird

Kathleen Brown Efird, age 87 of Harrisburg went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 17, 2025. Kathy was born July 26, 1937 in Rabun County, Georgia. She was a 1955 graduate of Rabun Gap Nacoochee School, and a 1959 graduate of Agnes Scott College. While at Agnes Scott she met her future husband and began her 66 years of marriage with the soon-to-be Reverend Charles M. Efird. Charles and Kathy began their ministry in the Presbyterian Church in Thomasville, GA in 1959 where their first child Martin was born. Their Ministry brought them to Charles’s home of Cabarrus County, NC in 1961 to Harrisburg Presbyterian Church. Their Ministry continued in Harrisburg and they added 3 more children to the family, Robert, Christy and Joy. Charles and Kathy were called to the Covenant Church of Harrisburg in 1977. Kathy was active in the churches and the local schools.

Kathy was devoted to her family and was beloved as a wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver. She constantly lived out her faith in Jesus Christ by not only the way she loved her family but by how she reached out and cared for others in the community. Kathy said “If I touched a life in some way, to God be the glory and please pass it on! (Philippians 4:9)”

Kathy frequently returned to her beloved North Georgia Mountains where she is fondly remembered by family and friends.

Those who cherish her memory are her husband Charles, son Robert, daughter Christy and husband Mike Coley, daughter-in-law Kim Efird, son-in-law Rev. Erron Hubbell and wife Amy, sister-in-law Susan Brown, granddaughter Erin Efird Deaton and husband Andrew, grandson Daniel Efird, grandson Jacob Coley and fiance’ Kiersten Wilson, granddaughter Jordan Coley McAulay and husband Rev Boone McAulay, grandson Charlie Hubbell, grandson Noah Hubbell, and granddaughter Emily Hubbell, great-granddaughters Cadence Deaton, Delia McAulay and Eliza McAulay. Kathy is fondly known as Dace to her family, a name given to her by her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers William R. Brown Jr., David A. Brown and wife Ann; and her son Martin and daughter Joy.

Kathy's Going Home to Glory Service will be held at the Covenant Church of Harrisburg on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 am. The family will greet friends at the church at 10:00 am. (6900 Hickory Ridge Road, Harrisburg, NC)

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Gideons International, The Salvation Army, or Samaritan’s Purse.
