Kathleen Mildred Deese Kluttz, 91 years of age, of Locust, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at her home in Locust.

Kathleen was born January 10, 1924 in Stanly County to the late James Wesley Deese and the late Lela Pearl Hathcock Deese. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Annette Carpenter, and Pearl Blanche; brother, Craig Harold Deese; and brother, James Herbert Deese.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Tommy Ross will be at 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 22, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Locust, 320 South Central Ave., Locust, NC 28097. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, James Franklin Kluttz, Sr. of Locust; son, James Franklin Kluttz, Jr. wife Cheryl Underwood Kluttz of Locust; sister, Betty Porter of Locust; grandchildren China, Jim, Tessa, Jillian; two great-grandchildren Yago, and Nico.

Kathleen and James were married in 1945 and spent the next 70 years together. In the 1940s Kathleen worked in government records for two years during the war. She then went to work for Edgcomb Steel in the credit department and continued working for them for the next 30 years.

Kathleen was a member at First Baptist Church in Locust for 65 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher for 55 years. Prior to her membership at First Baptist, she was a member at Meadow Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Locust. She was also active with the Ladies Auxiliary Locust VFW Post #6365.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Locust at 320 South Central Ave. P.O. Box 159 Locust, NC 28097; Hospice of Stanly County and The Uwharrie 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
