Kelechi Onyiriuka

It is often said that death is a permanent companion, but then it is always accompanied by sorrow as it denies the companion of a loved one. Mr. Kelechi Chinatu Onyiriuka ”KC Sunshine” an electrical engineer and a resident of Charlotte, NC, was called to GLORY on March 4th, 2020, at the age of 65 after battling a health condition.

Kelechi Onyiriuka was born in 1955 to late PA Shedrack Opara and Ezinne Constance Opara of Umuduru Aboha Ohii in Owerri west local government area of Imo state. He was the only child of his mother and the third son to his father. He attended his primary education in Ohii. Kelechi lost his father at the age of nine and was raised by his mother. He later moved to Aba to live with his aunties Mrs. Sophia Okoro and Lovely Soronnadi. He had his secondary education at Boys Technical College Aba (BTC).

Kelechi received a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from City and Guilds London, after which he got married in 1983 to his beautiful wife, Dita Kechi Onyiriuka, in an intimate ceremony. He was blessed with two sons Kelechi and Tobechukwu Onyiriuka, two daughters Chidinma Ezennaka and Chioma Asbury, six grandchildren Mina, Chisom, Ronnell, Chiamaka, Amelia and Kelechi.

Kelechi was employed at Falcon bottling Company Aba for 15 years and was their maintenance manager before proceeding to the United States in 1992 to pursue his dreams. Before his death, he worked at Dixie Electric Mechanical service in Charlotte N.C. for over 25 years. He was a manager in his department and took pride in his career.

Kelechi was an active member of the Igbo community in the Carolinas U.S.A and Owerri Nuzoije Progressive Union until his death; he served as a long-term financial secretary of Owerri Nuzoije.

Mr. Kelechi was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He lived a fulfilled life and empowered his loved one in his community Ohii. He enjoyed reading and participated in a lot of activities in the African community in Charlotte.

Mr. Kelechi Onyiriuka loved to love on people. He was family-oriented and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He treasured His children and embraced every moment with them. He especially loved His role as grandpa. He had a warm and welcoming personality and always made people around him smile and feel safe. When he speaks, he speaks greatness and wisdom. Christmas time in the family home was a tradition that he upheld. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 am - 11:30 am, Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Hartsell Funeral Home Harrisburg. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 12:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis in Concord officiated by Pastor Ted Ekong and Pastor Peter Awute. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis at Hwy. 29N at I85, Exit 58, Concord.
