Kenneth Carpenter

April 13, 1929 — November 2, 2014

Kenneth Lloyd Carpenter, aged 85 of Concord, North Carolina formerly of Marcellus, New York passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 at his residence. Ken now joins his wife of 54 years and the love of his life in heaven. Ken was born April 13, 1929 in Watertown, New York to the late Lloyd Edison Carpenter and Marion Marceline Carpenter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Grieco Carpenter and a brother Charles Lewis Carpenter.

Ken was an Army Veteran and served his country from February 1, 1951 through November 1, 1952 in the Korean War; 2nd Division 38 Infantry C Company. Ken was Honorably Discharged and awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was wounded in action in Korea on September 26, 1951.

Ken passed away comfortably in his home after a brief illness, with his family by his side. Ken had worked for AT&T where he was employed in the telephone installation field. He was fortunate enough to take an early retirement which afforded him the opportunity to spend priceless time with his grandchildren. Whether it was taking them to the park, hiking, playing games or just watching movies together; he cherished every minute of time spent with them. His grandchildren have fond memories filled with love and laughter of both him and Madeline.

Ken never minded the snowy Syracuse weather but also enjoyed the sunshine in N.C. until his final days. His children remember him as an avid sports fan with a sweet tooth and a love of pale ales. Ken loved camping and sitting by the bonfire. His grandchildren remember him fondly as their grandfather and friend.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Walpole and Patricia Weinshenker of Concord N.C.; son Mark and his wife Maria Carpenter of Wayne, N.J.; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a sister in law, Angela Grieco Stallings of Oklahoma.

Celebration of life services and burial will follow at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis NC 28081 or the charity of one’s choice.
