Kent Honeycutt

May 27, 1948 — May 6, 2019

Midland

Kent Peeler Honeycutt, 70, of Midland, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019.

Kent  was born May 27, 1948 in Concord NC.  He was the son of  the late Horace and Sarah Honeycutt, of Rockwell, NC  Kent graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1972.  He worked with FM Global in fire protection for 40 years, retiring as Senior Engineer in 2001.
Kent is survived by his wife, Brenda Kerr Honeycutt whom he had been married to for 38 years; a daughter Kenda Honeycutt of Charlotte; a son Kyler Honeycutt of the home and a granddaughter Kaelyn Honeycutt also of the home.  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Kent loved working with children.  His greatest joy was coaching soccer and baseball and watching his children play all their sports.  He particularly enjoyed the years he spent watching Kyler play and traveling as a family with the Mt. Pleasant Thunder Soccer Team which later became Tri-County Club.  Kent spent many hours watching both Kenda and Kyler play varsity sports at Mt. Pleasant High School.  In the last eight years, he had the joy of watching his granddaughter, Kaelyn follow the family tradition of soccer.  She has excelled and Kent was overjoyed to see her play on a club team at nine years old just as her daddy had.  When Kent was not on a ball field, he enjoyed time fishing and boating at Badin Lake and relaxing at Oak Island.
Kent never met a stranger and leaves behind a wealth of friends.  He was outgoing, fun and had a unique laugh that was easily identified as his.  He was a people person who truly loved being around others.  His smile lit up any room he walked into.  He always had this positive attitude that spread to those around him.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Turner, Tori and the staff at the Levine Cancer Institute; as well as Cabarrus County  Hospice. Especially Cherry Milano for their loving care and support during these years of Kent's illness.  This meant so much to us on this journey.
