Lance W. Milligan, Sr., 84, passed away on January 3, 2021 at Clear Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 16, 1936, in Washington, DC, the son of Wayne A. Milligan and Lucy (Worthington) McPhail. Lance graduated from Aberdeen High School, Class of 1954. Following graduation, he attended Salisbury University and later joined the Martin Marietta Corporation in Baltimore, where he met and married his wife Mary Jane (Carroll) Milligan. Although Lance and Mary Jane eventually divorced, they remained close throughout his life.
While Lance worked for Martin Maretta, he and Mary Jane lived in Germany. It was there that he developed a love for good food and good wine. Lance became captivated by automobiles, especially enjoying sports cars. He and Mary Jane strapped only the bare essentials to the trunk of their car and extensively explored Europe. These loves continued throughout his life as he and his family traveled the United States. Lance enjoyed spending time with his family and exploring places. Yet his greatest love was a simple, well prepared meal and lingering at the table engrossed in family discussions.
Lance was predeceased by his parents. Surviving are his brother Rodney McPhail of Havre de Grace, MD; his daughter Kimberly Pellicone and husband Dominick of Mint Hill, NC, son Lance W. Milligan, Jr and his wife Carol of Mooresville, NC, and daughter Adrienne Majcina of Fort Mill, SC; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In observance of COVID-19 restrictions, a service of remembrance will be held later in the year, with a final burial resting in Angel Hill Cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD.
The family would like to send their deepest appreciation of the outstanding care and compassion Lance received by his Hospice & Palliative Care Greater Charlotte team throughout the last months of his life. The dedication of care displayed by his team will always be remembered by his family.
