Lane Taylor

December 11, 1946 — June 30, 2016

Lane Edward Taylor, Sr., 69 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Taylor was born December 11, 1946 to the late Carl Edward and Leoma Griffin Taylor. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Burris.
Survivors include son, Lane (Chip) Taylor, Jr. of Raleigh; daughter, Gina Tharayil of Smyrna, GA; and sister, Jane Barrier of Albemarle.

Lane grew up in Albemarle, attended Central Piedmont Community College, and then served in the US Army in Vietnam in 1970. He was a computer programmer for many years at Federal Pacific and Dominion Yarn before retiring from the City of Albemarle in 2010.

He enjoyed the outdoors, spending countless hours running, bike riding, and hiking. He knew the trails of Morrow Mountain State Park like the back of his hand. He was a bird watcher and often took pictures of all the birds he encountered at the feeders in his yard and around Morrow Mountain, Badin Lake, Lake Tillery, and around Stanly County.

Lane loved music, particularly the classical music of Mahler and Rachmaninoff, the melodies and harmonies of the Beach Boys, and the lyrics of John Prine. He was known for his dry sense of humor and his engaging personality. He loved attending live sporting events, in recent years becoming an avid supporter of Catawba Indians football and baseball.

He was a devoted father that remained close to his former wife, Brenda and mother-in-law, Ruth Diggs. He leaves behind three grandchildren Carole, Hank, and Jack, whom he adored.

If you would like to make a charitable contribution in Lane's honor, he was a supporter of public radio (http://www.wdav.org/), and Friends of NC State Parks (http://www.ncfsp.org/Donate
