La Nelle Kennedy

La Nelle Smith Kennedy, 91, of Concord, woke up in Heaven on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis with family by her side.

La Nelle was born December 14, 1927 in Concord to the late Correll and Beulah Smith.  She was also preceded in death by beloved husband, Thea "TJ" Kennedy; daughter, Amelia Shelton; grandson, Kevin Hopkins; and five silblings, Ruth Fisher, Gladys Blackwelder, Pete Smith, Ben Smith and Edith "Shine" Smith.

La Nelle was retired from Cabarrus County School Food Service.  She was a founding member of Southside Baptist Church.  La Nelle was a Vacation Bible School Director, and taught Sunday School for more than 60 years.  She was involved in Lay Renewal Ministry, the youth ministry and an active choir member at Southside.  La Nelle was also a Red Cross Volunteer and beloved foster mother.  She had the sweetest spirit and lead many to the Lord.  La Nelle was a devoted Christian, prayer warrior and soul-winner for Christ.  La Nelle was a loving mother and grandmother, lovingly called Peanut Butter and Nug.  She will be forever loved and dearly missed.

Those left to cherish La Nelle's memory include children, Thea (Lucy) Kennedy; Margaret Ann Loy; Ann Murph; Hope (Nathan) Moose; grandchildren, Nathan, Nikki, Ashley, Joshua, Cynthia, Dechen and Ai-Chin; and great-grandchildren, Connor, Kaylee, Taylor, Aaron, Piper, Justin, Hunter, Brynlee and Austin.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.  The funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am at Southside Baptist Church, Concord, officiated by Rev. Joey Morrison and Rev. Robert Leonard.  Burial will follow at the West Concord Cemetery.
