Lanny Pigg

Lanny Mitchell Pigg passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord, NC.

Lanny was raised in Midland, NC where he lived most of his life. He attended Bethel High School in Midland where he played basketball and graduated in 1962. He attended and graduated from North Greenville Junior College in Greenville, SC and Newberry College in Newberry, SC where he played on the school’s basketball teams at both locations. Lanny served in the North Carolina Air National Guard for 7 years and was in the Photography business for over 35 years where he published pictures and yearbooks for schools and athletic organizations all over North Carolina and Virginia. In recent years, he enjoyed playing golf with his many friends, and throughout his whole life Lanny especially enjoyed college basketball and was a wealth of team trivia for teams all over the nation.

Lanny is preceded in death by his parents Murry Lee Pigg and Foda Robinson Pigg and his oldest brother, Myron Lee Pigg.

Survivors include his brothers, Everette Pigg and wife Claire of Midland, and Jack Pigg of Midland; his nephews, David Pigg of Huntersville, Lee Pigg and wife Annette of Indian Trail, and Chad Pigg and wife Jessica of Kannapolis; his nieces Miriam Pigg Caraway of Midland and Shannon Pigg Donahue and husband Daniel of Matthews.

A service to celebrate Lanny’s life will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Midland, NC at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2017.

Memorials may be made to the Newberry College Athletic Club at 2100 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
