Larry Eugene Smith, 75, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at his home.
Larry was born February 25, 1941 in Troy to the late Edmond Giles Smith and the late Willie Blondell Batten Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Edmond Smith; and sisters, Barbara Kendrick and Glenda Blake.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. The burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 596 Liberty Hill Rd., Mt. Gilead.
He is survived by his former wife, Bonita Smith, and their sons, Jedediah Smith and wife Heather of Greenville, Lucas Smith and wife Amy of Albemarle, Ben Smith and wife Kerri of St. Petersburg, FL; brother, Roger Vaughn Smith and wife Shirley of Albemarle; sisters, Donna Deaton of Rockwell, Joy Wilson and husband Brian of Marion; nine grandchildren, Evelyn, Alexandra, Oliver, Jasmine, Ethan, Jack, Emily, James, Morrigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was a loving and wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He retired from Yadkin, Inc., a division of Alcoa's Badin Works, as a hydroelectric technician and safety marshal. He volunteered for over 10 years as a soccer coach with Albemarle Parks and Recreation. He was an avid reader and had a passion for literature. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed old westerns.
