Larry Williams

April 10, 1939 — December 4, 2016

Larry Odell Williams was born on April 10, 1939 in Red Cross, NC into a modest life that would guide how he conducted his life. Friends knew Larry as humble with an altruistic and selfless heart. It was this kindness and humility that called him to service as president of the Jaycee’s Club and Lions Club, as chief of the Oakboro, NC Rural Fire Department, and as scout master of a Boy Scouts troop in Oakboro. Many also remember him as the owner of Williams Oil Company in Oakboro during the 1960’s to 1980’s. With a soul imbued with an insatiable wanderlust, he loved his career as a truck driver, delivering goods to 49 of the 50 states and all Canadian provinces. On December 4, 2016, after a struggle with cancer, Larry’s Lord and Savior delivered his soul home.

He is welcomed home by his parents Cletus Williams and Gladys Huneycutt Williams. He leaves behind daughter Kathy Shields and her husband Johnny Shields, son Greg Williams and his wife Donna Williams, and son Peyton Williams; three grandchildren, Sara Beth Shields Tarwater, Taylor Shields and Madison Williams; his loving companion, Ann Conybear; and a brother Jerry Williams and his wife Judith. On request of the deceased no memorial service will be held. Instead, donations in his honor to the Jaycee’s Club, Boy Scouts of America, Lions Club or the Oakboro, NC fire department are the greatest celebrations of his life.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Williams family.
