Laura Lee Kennedy Brooks, 85, formerly of Brooks Road, Stanfield went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in the Lutheran Home of Albemarle. Her funeral will be Friday, December 11, at Philadelphia Baptist Church at 2:00 pm where she was a member. The Rev. Dwight Mabry and Rev. Terry Burris will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 10th Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle from 6-8 pm She was born in Stanly County on September 16, 1924 to Audie Lee Kennedy and Hettie Boone Kennedy. She married Vance Drye Brooks on March 14. 1941 in Chesterfield. South Carolina. She was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother who loved to cook, work in her garden and sew as long as she was able. Her husband. Vance Brooks, her parents, Audie Kennedy and Hettie Boone Kennedy. and a sister. Yvonne K. Huneycutt. preceded her in death. She is survived by a son. Marvin Brooks and wife Annette, of Albemarle: two daughters, Barbara Hinson and husband Marvin, of New London, and Janette Barbee and husband McChord of Oakboro; grandchildren, Michelle Hinson of New London, Randy Brooks and wife Amanda, of Monroe, Kelly B. Smith and husband Mike of Millingport, Wesley Barbee and wife Angela, and Jeremy Barbee and wife Shelby. of Oakboro; great grandchildren, Landon Brooks and Jason Brooks of Monroe, and Michael Barbee and Christopher Barbee of Oakboro; brother. Olin Kennedy and wife Doris, of Garden City, SC and sisters: Eunice K. Baucom of Albemarle, and Lois K. Thomas of Oakboro, and a number of nieces and nephews. US Hwy 52, Albemarle, NC, 28001, or Philadelphia Baptist Church at 12495 Philadelphia Church Road Stanfield, NC 28163. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of the Lutheran Home for the excellent care and kindnesses shown to Mrs. Brooks over the last three years.
