Lavonne Greene

Lavonne Caroline Hinson Greene, 79, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at her home.

Lavonne was born June 12, 1937 in Union County to the late Henry LeRoy Hinson and the late Mary Ozell Long Hinson. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, David Greene; brothers, Billy Joe Hinson, and Henry "Junior" LeRoy Hinson.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Antioch Baptist Church, 6223 Love Mill Road, Monroe. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Joe Query and Rev. George Gouge. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be gathering at her home. Mrs. Greene will lie in state, without the family present, on Wednesday evening, June 7, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Greene of Monroe, Cynthia Mullis and husband Gary of Monroe, Teresa Rushing and husband Don of Monroe; sons, David Nelson Greene and wife Karen of Monroe, Mark Greene and wife Cindy of Monroe; sisters, Lindene Mullis and husband Jerry of Monroe, Gail Aycoth of Monroe; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her beloved dog, Smitty.

Lavonne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed spending time on her front porch looking at her flowers and watching the hummingbirds with her family.
