Lee J. Barbee, 86, of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born on July 30, 1925 in Stanfield, NC to the late Vernon James and Dallie Burris Barbee. Lee J. proudly served our country in the US Army/ Air Force. During World War II, as a member of the Army 4th Infantry Division at The Invasion of Normandy he became a Purple Heart recipient. After his time in the military, he returned to work at Cannon Mills Plant #6 and worked until retirement in 1987. He was a very active member of his church, Oak Ridge Baptist, for nearly 60 years. Left to mourn his passing are a beloved wife Daisy, of 67 years; one daughter, Inez Croft and husband, Andy, of Jacksonville, Florida; two granddaughters, Kimberley Peek and husband, Stacy, and Jaclyn Palmer and husband, Ryan; one great-grandson, Jeremy Peek; others include Sisters: Sadie Whitley and husband Marvin, Lois Eudy and (Jack deceased), Ruth Austin and (J.B. deceased), Verna Mae Layton and (Ben deceased ); Brothers: Roy Gene and wife Hazel, Ray and wife Ann, Marvin and wife Phyllis and Afton Barbee (deceased); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, church family, and friends. The family will receive friends to celebrate his life from 6 until 8 pm Friday, January 27, 2012 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 5340 Flowes Store Road, Concord, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with The Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard performing military rites. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Barbee family.
