Leland Kron “Bud†Littleton, age 87, of Badin, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Stanly Manor. Born April 30, 1925 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Donald Suttle Littleton and the late Dorothy McIntosh Greenlee Littleton. Bud was a graduate of Badin High School and enrolled at Mars Hill College. After completing just one year he left college to join the U.S. Marine Corps. His WWII service took him to the South Pacific; there he fought in the island campaigns of Tarawa, Tinian, and Okinawa. After the war he enrolled at Catawba College on the GI bill and played football. He married his Albemarle girlfriend, Geraldine. Following graduation he opened his own business, Littleton Insurance Adjustment Co. in Lenoir, NC. He and Geraldine raised their family and were active in church and community. In 1967 he joined the booming furniture industry and took a position and moved his family to Annapolis, MD. After retiring in 1988, Bud and Geraldine moved back to Badin. As one of the youngest in Stanly County, Bud was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Like a lot of boys from Badin, he grew up a golfer. Wherever life took him, he was always active in his local church, but none more than Badin Baptist. He possessed the very genuine quality of likeability and never had an unkind word for others. He is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine Boone Littleton of Albemarle; sons, Kron Littleton and his wife Karin of Chula Vista, CA; Don Littleton and his wife Valerie of Clarksville, MD; daughter Suzanne Cramer of Jacksonville, NC; sister Betty Palmer of Badin, NC; seven grandchildren, Erin, Trey, Kara, Callie, Kathleen, David, and Morgan; and six great grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan, Kayleigh, Claire, Ben, and Morrissey. The funeral service will be held at Badin Baptist Church, 28 Falls Rd., on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11AM. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service. Rev. Sid Martin and Rev. Dan Abernathy will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Badin Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 337, Badin, NC, 28009. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Littleton family.
