Leo Brown Peeler, 97, of Harrisburg, NC passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Leo was born June 1, 1925, in Lexington, NC to the late Claude Davis Peeler and the late Mary Rose Briggs Peeler.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Cora Mae Rogers Peeler; brother, C.D. Peeler, Jr; sisters, Louise Young, Elizabeth Brown McKinney and Christine Miller; and son-in-law Chip Horton.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Austin (Terry) of Rockwell, NC; Donnell Horton of Harrisburg, NC; Lisa Ratledge-Wright (AJ) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Brad Austin (Jennifer), Jared Horton (Shannon), Seth Horton and fiancee Sara Beth Hodgson, Logan Ratledge (Mikayla) all of Charlotte, NC; Emily Phillips (Cory) of Winston-Salem, Jonathan Ratledge (Kelsie) of Columbia, SC, Maddie Ratledge of Dothan, AL; great grandchildren, Graham, Brooks, Madeline Austin; Gus and Ava Phillips; Colin and Izzy Horton; and Berkley Ratledge, born September 26, 2022.
Mr. Peeler proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post for 70 years. After his military service he returned home to Salisbury, NC and married the love of his life, Cora Mae Rogers. Leo was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities. After being transferred to Harrisburg with CB Drug Company in 1969, he became a Charter Member of Advent Lutheran Church, where he was still a member. He started his day for over 30 years with a special coffee group at Hardee's in Harrisburg. Leo retired in 1987 from CB Drug Co. after 25 years of dedicated employment. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling abroad and visiting every state in the US in his RV with his family. His grandchildren were the center of his life, and he thoroughly enjoyed following their sports activities and accomplishments. "Pop" will be dearly missed by all of those who knew him and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, 460 Branchview Dr., Concord, NC 28025. The funeral service will be on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:00am at Advent Lutheran Church in Charlotte, officiated by Pastor Ward Misenheimer. A reception to immediately follow the service with visitation. Burial with military honors scheduled for 3:30 pm directly after the reception to take place at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
