Leonard Dewey Almond, 78 years of age, passed away quietly with his family by his side, Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his home in Midland. Mr. Almond was born July 25, 1934 in Stanly County to the late John Birch Almond and the late Annie Mae Almond. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Buford, Reece, and Hubert Almond; and his sister, Ruth Honeycutt. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 11 at St. Stephen's Wesleyan Church, 7601 Brush Arbor Road, Concord, NC 28025 with a 30 minute state prior to the service. Rev. Gary Morris and Rev. Bill Baldwin will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at the home. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Lou Smith Almond, of the home; sons, Gerald Almond and his wife, Ivey, of Midland and Leonard “Jr.†Almond and his wife, Traci, of Concord; daughters, Pansy Burnette and husband, Terry, of Midland and Joan Mesler and friend, Marty Stewart, of Concord; five grandchildren, Wendy Williams, Jera Hartsell, Dusty Burnette, C. J. Mesler, and Toni Almond; and 3 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
