Leslie Ann "Skimp" Hart Latford, 74, of Concord, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 30, 2009 at CMC-Union in Monroe. She was the co-founder of the Grand National Racing Wives Auxiliary, which became known as the Womenâs Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. in 2004. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 PM, Tuesday, November 3, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Services will be held at 8 PM in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. The wife of the late Bob Latford, Mrs. Latford was instrumental in the design of the race souvenir programs at Charlotte and Atlanta speedways when her husband oversaw public relations for those facilities in the 1960s and â70s. She was a retired school teacher in Cabarrus County, and she was described by their daughter as a "true racing wife," who was heavily involved in all of the racing communityâs activities. Skimp was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and person. She had many passions, including her beloved animals, art and gardening. Skimp will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known her. A Vermont native, she was born on September 9, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Leslie Francis Hart and the late Evelyn Trellegan Hart. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth âBetsyâ Latford-York, of Monroe, and four grandchildren, Chad Latford-York, Trent Latford-York, Kendal Elizabeth Latford-York and Josh Shepherd, all of Monroe.
