Lester Gurney

Lester A.Gurney, Age 68 of 36022 Hwy 49 North, New London, NC passed away on May 30, 2011 at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center in Albemarle. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 6pm until 8pm. The funeral service will be Monday, June 6, 2011 at 11am at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Chapel with Rev. Clayton Stoneman officiating. Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery with full military rites at 2pm. Mr. Gurney was born in Hartford, ME on Septemer 10, 1942, to the late Lester Allen Gurney, Sr. and the late Vera Mae Draper Gurney. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Mae Doloff Gurney; a son, Gary L. Ranger, Sr.; sister, Edith Berry. Mr. Gurney is survived by a son, Wayne of New London, a special son, Eddie Tangway of VA; 2 daughters, Wendy Record of Maine, Wanda Stevens of Maine; stepchildren, Rance Ranger, Brian Ranger and Tammy Harlow all of ME; Sheree Rickman of VA, Barbara Morgan of SC, Judy Dunn of FL; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Mr. Gurney proudly served his country in the US Army and was employed by EJ Snyder as a machine-dryer operator.
