Lewis Douglas "Buck" Buckner, Jr. 93 years of age, of Harrisburg, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
Buck was born May 28, 1923 in Tennessee to the late Lewis Douglas Buckner Sr. and the late Mattie Leigh Buckner. He was also preceded in death by his wife in 1994, Lizzie Buckner; two sisters, Mildred Buckner and Martha Joe Gentry; and his brother, Bill Buckner.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, February 20, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. A graveside service with full military honors will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday at Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg.
Survivors include his son, Michael D (Rhonda) Buckner of Fort Mill, SC; his daughter, Elizabeth A Buckner of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Amber Boan, Stephanie Sanchez and husband, Mark, and Chad Buckner; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Judah Sanchez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Buck proudly retired from the United States Marine Corps after serving his country in WWII, Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam and Korea. After retiring from the Marine Corps as an Aircraft Mechanic, he worked for Homelite for seven years, learning the small engine business. Lewis opened "Bucks Small Engine" in Concord for 13 years before retiring.
A member of Providence Baptist Church, Harrisburg, NC, Cabarrus Masonic Lodge 720, Concord, Scottish Rite, Charlotte, Oahis Shrine, Charlotte, American Legion Post 51, Concord; VFW Post 4895, Clarksville, TN and Fleet Reserve Association, Washington, DC.
