Biography Lewis Ray McCoy, 89 years of age, of Stanfield, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at his residence.

Lewis was born July 13, 1927 in Union County, North Carolina to the late Oscar and Delaler McCoy.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Verla Hatley and Willie Hooker; one brother, Joe McCoy; and son-in-law, Steve Brown.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Love's Grove United Methodist Church in Stanfield officiated by Rev. Jim White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Sarah Jane McCoy; two daughters, Donna M. (Allen) Smith of Midland and Connie Brown of Locust; one son, John (Kathy) McCoy of Stanfield; six grandchildren, Sarah Boyd, Caleb McCoy, Kristin McCoy, Kolt Ray McCoy, Jennifer Lilly and Ashley Davis; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald McCoy of Concord and Cardell McCoy of Wingate; and sister, Lynda Love of Stanfield.

Lewis served in the United States Merchant Marines. He retired from the Sun-Drop Bottling Company in Concord with over 30 years of service. Lewis was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening. He was a lifelong member of Loves Grove United Methodist Church in Stanfield and exemplified a true example of a Christian man by helping anyone in need, he had a big heart, and never met a stranger. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Adrienne and Lisa from Hospice of Cabarrus County and his two caregivers, Amanda and Erica.
