Rev. Lewis “Bill†Melton Thompson, age 95, of Albemarle, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011, at Stanly Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 26, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1309 Old Charlotte Road, Albemarle. A 30 minute state will precede the service which will be officiated by Rev. Joe Smith and Rev. Kent Williams. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory. Born April 4, 1916, in Stanly County to the late Fuller and Becky Thompson, Rev. Thompson is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mollie Mae Morton Thompson in 2004. He is survived by one son, Jerry Thompson, Sr. of Albemarle; one grandson, Jerry Thompson, Jr. and wife Julie, of Albemarle; and one great granddaughter, Meagan. A charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Rev. Thompson was a Baptist minister in Stanly County for over 60 years. Fifty seven years ago he founded Thompson and Son Beef Processing Company, where he worked up until his death.
