Linda Corliss Evett, 75, passed away October 19, 2022, at her home at the Gardens of Taylor Glen in Concord, North Carolina, following four years of coping with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Dean and Dorothy Corliss. Her daddy was in the Air Force; hence, she moved around often during her childhood. (She went to three different schools in the first grade.) The most time she spent anywhere was in Atlanta, which she always thought of as “home.”
Linda graduated from A.C. Flora High School in Columbia in 1965 and from the University of South Carolina in 1969. Later in that year she married Jack Evett, a professor at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and moved to Charlotte to join him there. They enjoyed 53 years of happy marriage. She loved children and was passionate about teaching preschool (mostly four-year-olds) for many years at several churches around Charlotte.
Linda was happiest with and proudest of her four children, who survive her: Susan Miller (husband John) of Statesville, NC; Scott Evett (wife Stacey) of Harrisburg, NC; Sarah Owens (husband Damie) of Harrisburg, NC; and Sallie Russin (husband Michael) of Harrisburg, NC. They all feel they had the best mother in the world. Later, she was even happier with and prouder of nine grandchildren, who survive her: Carley, Abbey and Jordan Drye; Kayla and Camryn Evett; Ashlee and Trevor Owens; and Tyler and Emilie Russin. They all feel they had the best grandmother in the world (known to them as “Granna,” “Nuh” or “Nunnie”).
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Linda is survived by her husband Jack Evett of Concord, NC, her sister-in-law Bunny Williams (husband Doug) of Chapin SC, and her cousin Carol Floyd (husband Lenny) of Wilmington, Delaware. She also leaves behind many, many close friends who were a big and important part of her life.
