Lloyd Gilbert

Lloyd Speights Gilbert, 86 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Lloyd was born March 30, 1928 in Stanly County to the late Silas Valentine Gilbert and the late Eva Caroline Speights Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Howard, Elmer, Harvey and Ray Gilbert; sisters, Lecta Tucker, Viola Smith, Celia Clayton, and Vernie Huneycutt.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Oakboro United Methodist Church, 4591 Main Street in Oakboro. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary with Rev. Gene Moore and Rev. Anthony Moore officiating. The burial will be at the Smith's Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy. 138 in Oakboro, with military honors conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carrie Lee Gilbert of the home; sisters, Vera Eudy of Albemarle, and Betty Jean Edwards of Charlotte.
