Mrs. Lois Marie Blackwelder Sheffield, formerly of Concord, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on December 6, 2018 and to see her deceased husband Eli A. Sheffield, the love of her life for 61 years. She was born June 11, 1930 to the late Eunice Laura Jane Carter Blackwelder and Lewis Lawson Blackwelder of Concord, North Carolina.
Lois graduated from Hartsell High School in 1948 as class salutatorian. In 1955 she graduated from Evans College as a medical secretary. After college she began work at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in medical records. Later she worked in the pathology department for 13 years. She worked at Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital for 23 years. After retirement in 1991, she and her husband Eli enjoyed doing many crafts including woodwork, food canning and working in their yard, until her husband passed in 2009. Lois lived in Concord, North Carolina until 2017 when she moved to Columbia, SC to live with her brother Donald and his wife because of her failing health.
Lois was close with many in her church at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church, although in recent years she was unable to attend because of her health
The family will receive friends from 12 - 1 p.m, Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church on Old Charlotte Road, Concord, North Carolina. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church and officiated by Rev. Tamara Wensil. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis.
Lois is survived by her brother, Donald R. Blackwelder of Columbia. Although Lois and Eli did not have children, they enjoyed their many nieces and nephews; nephew, Buddy Collins, Jeffrey Collins, Rodger Collins, Melvin and Gail Blackwelder, Cheryl Blackwelder, Sandra Blackwelder, Laura Blackwelder, Bobby Blackwelder, Cornelius Blackwelder, Tim and Debbie Blackwelder, Joe Del and Becky Blackwelder. She was predeceased by brothers, William A. Blackwelder, Boyd G. Blackwelder, Rudolph V. Blackwelder, and Bobby L. Blackwelder and sister Mildred L. Collins
