Lola Thomas Mikol

Lola Thomas Mikol passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, surrounded by her family. Lola was born in Newport News, Virginia, on October 6, 1942 to the late Beulah Tucker Thomas and the late Newell Franklin Thomas Sr. following WWII, the family returned to North Carolina.

Lola graduated from Winecoff High School in 1961 and attended Mars Hill College, earning a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1965. Lola had multiple occupations during her working years, some of which include: teacher, seamstress, real estate agent, office manager, water aerobics instructor, and in her retirement, campground host in the Uwharries. Of course, she was most proud of raising her three sons and helping them achieve their goals.

Lola was known for her warm personality. She had the ability to start a conversation with anyone she met and keep that conversation going! She enjoyed sewing, caring for her beloved pets, camping, RVing, cultivating her irises, and observing nature from her own yard. She kept the wild birds in Richfield well fed, and her backyard chickens provided her family with an abundance of fresh eggs.

Lola is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Mikol. She is survived by her siblings, Ruth Rowe, Frank Thomas, and Eulalia Fisher; her three children, Jeff Jones (Lorri), Duane Jones, and Tim Jones (Lori); along with her three grandchildren, Erin, Tristan, and Morgan.

The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, January 22nd, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.

In remembrance of Lola, contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
